Snake River Shiver
Today was our second full day in Jackson/Teton Village. White water rafting was at the top of everyone's list, so we went to Jackson White Water outfitters this morning for an excursion on the Snake River. It was 52 degrees on our drive to Jackson around 8am this morning. The water temperature may be just a few degrees warmer. Thankfully, wetsuits were included in our rental to make it bearable.
The scenery was amazing. The water was very swift and a beautiful greenish color and very clear. We saw a yellow bellied marmot hanging from a tree limb, an osprey, and several bald eagles. The waves were nice, and the water was deep which posed little danger. The kids even took turns "riding the bull" on the front of the front of the raft. The people at the front of the raft, by the way, got soaked. Hooray for the wetsuits! Some of the kids even jumped in the water a few times . . . not me. Unfortunately, due to the harmful effects of water on electronics, we did not take our phones/cameras and have no pictures of our time on the river. We all had a great time!
The drive to and from the river was very scenic as well, and for a considerable portion of the drive, we traveled alongside the river. The bus driver told us several interesting stories and tidbits of info on several points of interest along the way.
On the way home, we stopped at Nora's Creekside Inn in Wilson for lunch - this was a great eating locale that Donna had discovered on a previous trip to the area with her friend Marie. It did not disappoint. Our waitress even gave us some good hiking ideas which we will try to fit in if we are able. Tomorrow is our last full day, and we know we want to ride the tram/lifts tomorrow and explore the ski mountain area.
After returning home after the lunch, most of the kids, apparently with boundless energy, went to the pool to swim for a couple of hours. I was the fortunate adult that got to accompany them and must confess that I dozed off for a few minutes. The pool was packed as it turned out to be a warm, sunny day. I was surprised how many families at the fairly small complex decided to spend their afternoon swimming as well. Needless to say, there were a jillion kids in the pool, so I opted to sit this one out.
After heading home, we turned it around before too long to head back to Jackson for dinner. I was thankful for my 5 Hour Energy. We ate at Genevieve's near the town square and enjoyed ice cream and shopping afterward. Jackson has a nice vibe.
We definitely had an action-packed day and look forward to another one tomorrow. More later . . .
