Herding Cats, Riding Bikes, and Petting Horses

Taking our time getting up after a day of travel, we had a little trouble getting organized and mobilized today...  Steph, Runcie, and I joked that it's like herding cats.   After a relaxed morning, we enjoyed an outdoor lunch at Mangy Moose, a local favorite at the base of the ski mountain.   All morning and early afternoon we had been gathering information about the different activities we had talked about doing while we are here.   Slowly, with careful planning, decisions were made, and we had a plan!!!   Yay!!




After a quick stop back at our place to gather a few necessities, we headed over to Teton Village Sports to rent bikes.  Many people have noted that biking is a fantastic way to view the beauty of the mountains and get a closer perspective on wildlife.  Just for the record, we agree...  we had a wonderful time...   We opted to do the 12 mile bike to Jackson...  Here are some pictures we caught along the way...







These two crazy guys came floating through the Snake River on a log, laughing and having a good time...  Not sure what their story was... Hope they made it home safe ;)  













Arriving in Jackson, we dropped off our bikes at Teton Village Sports' Jackson store and then took a shuttle back to Teton Village...  Since Nashville folks really don't use public transit, we all felt a little green...    I had to reach way back to my Chapel Hill days... reading the bus schedule and following the line.  I even showed some of our crew the wires you pull for you stop.  

 Before too long we were back at Teton Village where an outdoor concert had just begun.   We had another herding cats moment trying to decide where to eat dinner...  Finally we picked a couple of restaurants in an outdoor area...   Music playing... Cool summer mountain evening...  It was wonderful!!   When we loaded up the big ole van, I jokingly asked everyone, "Who had fun today?"     Everyone answered, "Meee!!"   I was surprised to hear that for several, that was one of the most fun activities we have done so far!   

Now it's off to bed soon; we have an early departure for white water rafting.   Can't wait!!!

We woke up in Sidney, Nebraska, a charming small town.  Interestingly, there was a big sign at the gas station that said "You are Nowhere."  We decided to move on rather than explore because the water park in Grand Island, Nebraska was calling our name. When you're driving the great plains, a city named "Grand Island" is a curiosity.  That being said, the drive through Nebraska is much different than I thought it would be - different than the vast, beautiful, and picturesque S Dakota to the north and the equally vast, sparsely populated, and inhospitable Kansas to the south.  Nebraska had signs of life throughout the I-80 corridor, probably because this is the same corridor that the Oregon Trail and the pony express followed.  We saw the same South Platte, and Platte Rivers that the early travelers saw.  Because people have been traveling through this area for so long, many communities had a chance to spring up along the way, and unlike I-90 and I-70,...

Welcome to our travel blog!!  Tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. CST we embark on our next adventure... Some of you may be wondering about our blog name, "Ten Hearts To Three Parks."  Years ago, when I was a young mom of a 3 year old, a 1 year old, and a newborn, I would often contemplate that as I drove around town, I had 3 beating hearts - and as their mom, I was responsible for those beating hearts... their lives.   Even though it was a little scary to realize the responsibility of keeping those hearts beating... it was equally an endearing moment- thankful for the gift of family. Homeward Bound Part 1

We left Jackson Hole yesterday morning.  It's about a 24 drive from Nashville (with no stops which makes it about 32 hours for our family) which makes it seem closer to home.  I love Wyoming . . . it is chock full of beauty and history. We left the northwest corner of the state yesterday morning and after winding through the mountains surrounding the Jackson area, we went almost due south in a wide valley between two distant mountain ranges.  I ran into a family at a gas station in this remote area.  The daughter will be a sophomore at Vanderbilt . . . small world.  Soon afterward, we passed the Big Sandy River where the Oregon Trail had crossed at this point 150 years ago.  This was an area where mountain men once engaged in the fur trade and where they would gather together.  The local communities are aware and proud of this heritage.  We continued heading southward and after passing through the southwest portion of the state, we headed due ea...
