Bad Corn...

After a late dinner coupled with enjoying a walk through downtown Sioux Falls, we opted to take our sweet time leaving this morning.   Our main destination was Badland National Park, but on our way there, we wanted everyone in our group to appreciate the vegetation glory of the Corn Palace.   The entire exterior cover is covered with corn and inside there are beautiful murals made of corn...  To say this place was unique would be an understatement...    Of course, we couldn't leave until we bought silly corn hats and other souvenirs were gathered... Yeah, we feel a little like suckers, but we will proudly don our corn hats and shirts in Nashville.   I am certain all y'all will be jealous.

Before too long we were rolling down I-90 towards the Badlands.    On the way, to help time pass away more quickly, we chose to play games like "How Far Away is that Windmill?"     I said 5 miles.   Runcie said 7 miles.    Actually that windmill was over 11 miles away.   We've always been fascinated by how flatter terrain and large objects can skew our sense of distance...

We arrived at the Badlands by early afternoon.   As spectacular as it was... the heat was unforgiving.   Triple digits, no shade.   Originally we had planned on hiking the Notch Trail, but we quickly realized how intense the heat was.   After a quick stop to the visitor center, we chose to lunch at the next station....   Interestingly enough, they served an Indian Taco (vegetarian available as well).    Let's just say, those who ordered the Indian Taco out ordered everyone else.

After our late lunch, we enjoyed the last few hours in the park not only appreciating the breathtaking views, but also enjoying the spectacular wildlife...  First up:  Prairie Dogs.   Runcie tried to help them develop their palatte by sharing his Funyuns...   Let's just say that they were happy he visited them and they are anxiously awaiting his return.

Right before we exited the park, we were able to see the rare Big Horned Sheep.   As they majestically moved through the field and crossed the road, they became closer and closer to us...  Honestly, it was a bit unnerving, recognizing their strength and power, one could easily know the damage they could deliver, if they wanted.....   Since I brought my zoom lens, I was able to capture some beautiful photos.   Unfortunately, I am unable to locate my disc reader...  As soon as I locate it, I will add photos.

Once we left Badlands National Park, we headed to Hermosa, South Dakota, a suburb of Rapid City.  After three days at three different locations, we are thankful to be at one place for the next few days.  The home we are staying in is quite magical...   The kids are enamoured with it's sweet decor....   We enjoyed dinner here tonight...  guitar playing and singing on the screened in porch.
